‘mental health is a universal human right'

World Mental Health Day is in its third decade, and this year makes the point that our focus needs to move beyond the individual.
"We drive change towards a mentally healthy society for all, and support communities, families and individuals to live mentally healthier lives."
As discussed in our last post, 'Walk & Talk (and listen)', there is an increasing argument that we must move beyond awareness.
Space to Talk is focused on doing; we deliver direct support to the community we are not a campaign organisation. However, we do support campaigns by organisations with the reach and trusted influence necessary to deliver change. National charities such as Mind and their campaign for the Government to reform the 40-year-old Mental Health Act.
Awareness is all good and well, but without the right support, individuals have nowhere to turn to. We have more to say about moving beyond awareness; look out for our post later this week. In the meantime, please move beyond being aware, take some action, follow the link to Mind and support their petition.
