We have a new home for our Outdoor Programme
www.space-outdoors.co.uk is dedicated to our activity weekends, try-outs and challenges.
Do you hold on to a desire to venture 'off grid'? Have you visited one of our great national parks and thought, you would like to venture away from the crowds? Does the idea of disconnecting from technology and society for few days resonate with you?
Our activity programme for 2024 focusses on inclusivity, catering to both cautious enthusiasts and beginners. We have developed introductory weekends and activities that gently guide participants into outdoor activities.
Introduction to Hill Walking
Join us for a beginner-friendly weekend designed to introduce you to the joys of hill walking in the UK's picturesque upland areas. This experience is perfect for those with no prior hill walking or navigation experience. In fact, it's especially suited for individuals who may have never explored hills or upland regions before.
Gain an understanding and experience of:
Navigation - we will introduce the basics of navigation on lowland/fell terrain.
Kit preparation - prior to setting off we will talk through the equipment we need to take with us and how to pack our rucksacks
Planning & Pace - we will talk about planning routes, understanding pace, distance and our own limits
Weather - sources of forecasts and how weather can affect our choice of route, when to turn back and even if we should venture out at all.
Safety - hazards on the hills and what to do in an emergency

Cumbrian Chill - retreat
The weekend is focussed on personal wellbeing and wellness. Our walks and activities will include mindfulness or similar activities or discussions. Nature shall be our backdrop and the main contributor for the weekend. Participation in all activities is your choice and you will not be expected to join in with all or any group exercises or activities. But we hope you will find one or two which you connect with!
This weekend is an opportunity for you to dedicate some time to yourself. Our programme is informal and flexible, this is a weekend for you to do as much or as little as you wish.
A long walk - full day out on the Westmorland fells
Short walks – to explore the local area, do some drawing or photography or just sit by a local river and let nature happen around you.
Indoor activities – for those that don’t want to walk and group wellbeing activities for those that want to participate.
Local areas of interest – for those wanting to know more about the local area and its history.

Our base for our outdoor programme is the small Westmorland village of Crosby Garrett in the Eden Valley. A hidden gem located between the North Pennines (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and the Lake District. To the south is the Yorkshire Dales National Park. From our base we have access to the Westmorland Fells, criss crossed with walking routes, rural tracks and historic disused railway tracks.
To come in 2024 - our programme is continuing to develop:
We will announce these activities as they are confirmed but, please also keep visiting our activities site www.space-outdoors.co.uk for news about additional dates and offers.
